Why Natural Skincare Matters: The Story Behind HBC Organics

When people ask me why I started HBC Organics, the answer is actually pretty simple.

Natural skincare changed my life.

Long before HBC Organics existed, I was simply someone searching for products that made my skin feel comfortable. Like many people, I tried cleanser after cleanser, lotion after lotion, hoping to find something that didn’t leave my skin feeling dry, tight, or irritated.

Then I discovered natural skincare.

For the first time that I could remember, my skin simply felt…good.

It felt nourished instead of stripped. Comfortable instead of tight. Healthy instead of like it was constantly trying to recover from the products I was using.

That experience completely changed the way I looked at skincare.

I became fascinated by herbs, botanical oils, traditional soap making, essential oils, and the incredible ingredients that nature has provided for generations. What began as curiosity quickly became a passion.

The very first bar of soap I ever made was Vanilla Chamomile.

It was a simple bar, but it represented the beginning of something much bigger than I could have ever imagined. Every batch taught me something new. Every ingredient made me want to learn more.

Then, eleven years ago, I created what would become one of the most meaningful products I’ve ever formulated—the True Blue Beauty Bar.

At the time, I had no idea how much that one bar would change my life.

Customers began sharing how much they loved it. Families came back for it again and again. It became one of the products that helped shape HBC Organics into what it is today.

As the founder of HBC Organics, I can honestly say that the True Blue Beauty Bar changed my life. It helped turn a passion into a career, a small business into a thriving community, and a dream into the life I live today.

Looking back, it’s incredible to think that one bar of soap could become the foundation of a company that has now been serving families since 2010.

Sometimes the things that ignite our passions seem small in the beginning.

You never know where they’ll lead.

For me, it all started with one bar of soap.

Why Natural Skincare Matters

Over the years, people have often asked me why I choose natural ingredients instead of conventional formulations.

The answer is simple: I believe in working with ingredients that have stood the test of time.

Natural skincare isn’t about fear or perfection. It’s about intentionally choosing ingredients that nourish the skin and creating products with care.

Thoughtfully Chosen Ingredients

One of the things I love most about natural skincare is recognizing the ingredients I’m using.

Beautiful plant oils.

Rich botanical butters.

Mineral-rich clays.

Herbal infusions.

Essential oils.

Rather than relying primarily on synthetic ingredients, I enjoy building products around ingredients that people have appreciated for generations.

Every ingredient has a purpose.

Herbal Infusions: One of Nature’s Greatest Gifts

One of my favorite ways to formulate is through herbal infusions.

Slowly infusing herbs into nourishing oils is a traditional process that allows the characteristics of those botanicals to become part of the finished product.

Calendula.

Chamomile.

Lavender.

Plantain.

Comfrey.

Rose petals.

Green tea.

Hibiscus.

These herbs have inspired generations of herbalists, and they continue to inspire me every time I step into my workshop.

Essential Oils That Do More Than Smell Beautiful

Essential oils are one of my favorite parts of natural skincare.

Not simply because they smell incredible, but because they transform the entire experience of caring for your skin.

A calming lavender.

Refreshing peppermint.

Bright citrus oils.

Earthy cedarwood.

Beautiful blue tansy.

Each essential oil brings its own unique aroma and character to a formulation, making skincare feel less like another task and more like a moment of self-care.

Beautiful Oils Create Beautiful Skin

Nature has provided an incredible collection of oils and butters that each bring something different to skincare.

Some of my personal favorites include:

• Olive oil for conditioning.

• Babassu oil for its lightweight, silky feel.

• Shea butter for rich moisture.

• Mango and kokum butters for a luxurious finish.

• Sunflower oil for its skin-softening properties.

• Castor oil for creating a rich, creamy lather.

When thoughtfully combined, these ingredients create products that cleanse and moisturize while helping skin feel comfortable instead of stripped.

Our skin is remarkable.

It works every day to protect us from the outside world.

I believe skincare should work with your skin—not against it.

That’s why my goal has always been to create products that cleanse gently while supporting the skin’s natural moisture barrier, leaving skin feeling soft, refreshed, and cared for.

Every batch is made with the same care I would use if I were making it for my own family—because in many ways, I am.

Created eleven years ago, this bar quickly became one of our most beloved products and remains a customer favorite today.

Formulated with nourishing oils and the beautiful aroma of blue tansy essential oil, it was designed to gently cleanse while leaving skin feeling soft, balanced, and refreshed.

Over the years, we’ve heard from customers who have made it part of their daily skincare routine, and many have shared that they wouldn’t want to wash their face with anything else.

For me, this bar represents so much more than soap.

It represents faith.

Growth.

Late nights learning.

Countless batches.

The courage to build something from the ground up.

Most of all, it reminds me that passions have a way of becoming something much bigger than we ever expect.

Natural skincare changed my life.

It gave me healthier-feeling skin.

It introduced me to incredible ingredients.

It taught me a craft I fell in love with.

And ultimately, it led me to creating HBC Organics—a business that has allowed me to serve families for more than sixteen years.

I hope every bar we make reminds you that skincare doesn’t have to be complicated.
